Rainy season is here, and you might still feel like running—whether you’re training for endurance or getting ready for race-day weather. Some runners love the challenge, while others would rather stay dry indoors. Both choices are totally okay—it’s all about what feels right for you.

Running in the rain can be fun and even refreshing, but it’s not always the best idea. It really depends on how heavy the rain is, how comfortable you feel, and your safety. Whatever you decide, take care and listen to your body.
Thinking of running in the rain? Here are a few quick reminders—just be sure to avoid doing so during heavy rain or a typhoon.
Dress Smart
Pick light, quick-drying gear —and top it off with a water-resistant or waterproof jacket. Skip cotton—it soaks up water, gets heavy, and stays wet.

Watch Your Step
Be extra careful especially when you are running in Metro Manila or in busy areas—hidden potholes and open manholes may be lurking under floodwaters. Avoid areas with standing or murky water if you can’t see the road beneath. Watch for slippery pavement—shortening your stride helps improve traction and reduces the risk of slipping.

Protect Your Feet
If you’ve got water‑resistant shoes, wear them—or at least bring a dry pair of socks (and shoes) to change into afterward to help prevent blisters and cold feet.
Stay Visible
Wear a reflective vest and clip on LED armbands or lights so drivers and cyclists can spot you easily—especially in the dark or rain.
Warm Up Indoors
Start with light movement and dynamic stretches indoors—this warms up your muscles before you head out and helps prevent cold‑muscles.
Dry Off Quickly
Change out of wet clothes right after your run—this helps prevent chilling.
Embrace the Challenge!

Note: For some runners, running in the rain can be a valuable part of weather-conditioning training. However, during the rainy season, it’s often wiser to stay indoors and rest when conditions are dangerous or unpleasant.
If you do need to run in the rain, these tips will help you stay safe—and even enjoy the experience.
